We're back for another fantastic Sunday evening at The Western Hotel, as part of the St Ives September Festival 2026, where we will again delve deep into the poetic heart of songwriting.
‘In Conversation with Songwriters’ is an intimate and engaging event for fans of authentic, lyrically strong music and for anyone curious about the art and craft of a great song.
Hosted by Toni Edwards, who runs the hugely popular Alternative, Indie, Folk Night at The Kettle and Wink, this session will feature live performances and open discussion with four exceptional local songwriters: Tim Neville, Johanna Suheyla , Frank Bryant and Will Nott.
Whether you're a seasoned songwriter or simply a passionate fan of poetic, emotive music, this will be an interactive and inspiring evening. You might even leave with the beginnings of your own song!

Tim Neville
is the vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter for The Regalos, a local indie surf-rock band based here in St Ives. He is a keen observer with a witty sense of humour, which he infuses into his songwriting. Tim also runs the 'Sunday Sessions', another incredible community music night, at The Western Hotel.

Johanna Suheyla
is a singer-songwriter based in Penzance with a life-long love for stories, folk and fairy tales. On open tuned guitar and 5-string banjo, she writes honest and sometimes personal songs plucked out of life around her, her own experiences and the endless stream of stories playing in her head. She writes poetry that sometimes turns into lyrics and finds it nearly impossible to write a song on purpose. She is also a mother of two miraculous children, a song sharing leader, one fifth of Irish based Jukebox Gypsy, one fourth of former Foxes Fair and, most recently, half of Grace and Johanna, a Penzance based old-time/folk duo partial to a murder ballad and other tales of the macabre.
Frank Bryant
Frank lives in a wooden hut with no electricity and a feral cat. He makes wine and pizza's for a living. He swims with seals and dives deep for lyrics. His songs are meaningful and his voice carries the realism of life. Often compared to Eddy Vedder and Nick Drake he's currently recording and is targeting spring 2027 for release under the moniker Isel Hok [Low Hawk in Cornish].
Will Nott
Will Nott is a British singer-songwriter and musician whose music has been released by Communion Records, the label co-founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons.
His songs have also featured in film, including Having You, starring Anna Friel, Romola Garai and Andrew Buchan, and The Decoy Bride, starring David Tennant, Kelly Macdonald and Alice Eve.
Will has also written a number of novels and spent ten years working as a journalist. That experience has increasingly shaped his approach to songwriting, particularly his interest in the intersection between songwriting and life writing. He has been experimenting with more narrative-driven lyrics, exploring how songs can accommodate a wider range of themes, experiences and stories while retaining their emotional and musical immediacy.
